(JASONVILLE) - 23-year-old James Roberts of Jasonville was arrested on a charge of forgery after he allegedly used a woman’s debit card in December to make more than $298 in purchase at the Linton Walmart.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Roberts admitted to Jasonville Police officers that he found the woman's debit card in the seat of his vehicle. He then admitted to being "messed up on Xanax" and couldn't remember what he bought, but he knew it was around $300. Police say Roberts purchased a Samsung Straight Talk cell phone
The woman told police that Roberts had been to her home on November 21 and got into his vehicle to talk to him and accidentally left her wallet behind.
Video footage from the store shows Roberts arriving at the store, purchasing the phone and then leaving the store.
Roberts allegedly used the credit option when making the purchase and signed the woman's name instead of his own on the signature pad.
After buying the phone, Roberts had the wallet along with the debit card returned to the woman through a mutual friend.
Roberts posted a $400 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 23.
