(BEDFORD) - Women who are honored through the Walk with Excellence program are often surprised and in awe of their awards.
Two local women - Becky Buher and Minal Patel - had those exact feelings when they were given special recognition for their good deeds in Lawrence County through last year's Walk with Excellence ceremony.
Another round of women is set to be surprised and honored March 10 at the 4-H Fairgrounds. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program starts at 6:30 p.m.
"The Walk with Excellence is a wonderful way to help inspire women," Buher said. She attests to the strong "network" of women who have been recognized through the program in past years. "I know I could ask any one of the past nominees for advice, and help would willingly be given," she said.
Patel believes that this "phenomenal program...validates what women strive to achieve. It not only acknowledges them for their hard work, but it also encourages them to further endeavor to improve our community."
Buher summed up what the Walk with Excellence program is proud to honor: the "little" things that make a big impact. "The little things that are done by individuals can become big contributions to the well-being of our community," she said.
Nominations are due January 30 and can be emailed to lccf@cfpartner.org; mailed to the Lawrence County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1235, Bedford; faxed to 279-1984; or dropped off at the Foundation office at 1324 K St.
Tickets cost $15 and must be purchased by March 2. They are available at the Lawrence County Community Foundation, the Times-Mail and the Bedford Chamber.
