(BEDFORD) - If you have not “liked” Bedford Police Department on Facebook - You should.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, the department is using Facebook to keep residents informed.

The department has also partnered with Nextdoor, the free and private social network for neighborhoods, to build stronger, safer communities with the help of residents.

This integration with Nextdoor will enable the Bedford Police Department to communicate online with Bedford neighborhoods.

Residents and the Bedford Police Department will be able to work together to increase safety and strengthen and build a virtual neighborhood watch.

Join now and set up your neighborhoods at www.nextdoor.com, to download the app.

This will allow officers to post important notifications to select neighborhoods, or the entire city.

Parsley says he would like to see more people sign up for the site. Currently there are only about 120 people signed up for the site.

The Facebook page has more than 3,000 followers.

One feature is the Wanted Wednesday posters. These are residents wanted on local warrants and is used to take some serious offenders off the streets.

The Facebook page is also a way to keep the public information about the departments activities.
