(BLOOMINGTON) - A Lafayette man was arrested after he led Indiana State Police on a vehicle pursuit and manhunt on Tuesday morning.
Trooer Adam Davis was on patrol on State Road 37 near Acoff Road, just north of Bloomington, at 10 a.m. when a silver Ford Focus passed Trooper Davis' marked patrol vehicle at 100 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.
The trooper was able to stop the vehicle near Bottom Road and as the trooper approached the driver's side window, the driver indicated he was exempt from being stopped by police and proceeded north on State Road 37.
Trooper Davis again pursued the Ford Focus as it continued northbound, following it westbound on Simpson Chapel Road and then ultimately westbound on Williams Road. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled.
ISP Troopers saturated the area and immediately notified residents living in the neighborhood of the description of the male driver and to call 911 if located.
Within minutes, an area resident spotted the man behind a house in the 800 block of Williams Road and called the ISP Bloomington Post.
Troopers secured the property and were able to arrest 34-year-old Jaimi Luke Smith after he initially resisted arrest.
Smith was arrested on charges of felony resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement by force, resisting law enforcement by fleeing, reckless driving, refusal to identify and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
