(MITCHELL) - A Martinsville man was arrested after a domestic fight involving a hammer Wednesday night.
53-year-old Chad Hill was arrested on a charge of domestic battery and battery with a deadly weapon.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, officers were called to a home in the 4200 block of State Road 60 West at 8:10 p.m. after a woman reported her car had been stolen.
When officers arrived they found that the woman was suffering from injuries to her face that included a broken nose, lacerations and a chipped tooth. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
The woman told police she had been hit in the back of the neck with a hammer by her husband. He then left the home in the woman's vehicle. Once at the hospital the woman changed her story and says that she wasn't sure if she had been hit with a hammer, but her husband had hit her with a hammer in the past. At the home officers found the home in disarray from a struggle.
Officers later located Hill, who was impaired, and he was arrested.
