(GREENE CO.) - The Greene County Sheriff Department is alerting residents about The Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes scam.
According to a press release, the department has received several reports about residents receiving calls reporting they are winners.
The caller is identified as a representative of Publishers Clearing House and informs the resident they have won. In one incident the resident was told they had won $2.5 million.
The caller also informs the resident that he/she should send $499.99 through Western Union for the handling fees, and states the need for arrangements to be made in order for the prize to be delivered.
The Greene County Sheriff Department is warning residents of this scam and advises residents to use caution and be aware of telephone scams.
