(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County’s robotics team - the Diamond Blades - will compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge in Shelbyville Saturday.
If the team wins, they will advance to a state level meet.
The Times Mail reports that the team, which is advised by engineers from Crane, practices twice a week in a room at the StoneGate Arts & Education Center. Tony Peters leads the team.
At the challenge Saturday, the team's robot will compete in a 12-foot by 12-foot square with a couple of ramps and a center island that contains a hopper of large and small whiffle balls. The team will pair with another team and compete against two other robots. The objective is to knock the balls out of the center hopper and onto the playing field, then scoop up the balls and place them in cylinders. No compressed air or vacuums can be used.
