(NEWBERRY) - Two Bloomfield teens were flown to two Indianapolis hospitals after the SUV they were in flipped several times on Buck Run Road near Newberry on Monday afternoon.
According to a Greene County Sheriff's Department, 17-year-old Mason Ellis was traveling south on Buck Run Road when he crossed Borter Road at an unsafe speed, which caused the 2005 Mitsubishi Montero SUV he was driving to continue onto Buck Run Road.
Police say the vehicle left tire marks as it veered to the west side of Buck Run Road after passing Borter Road. The SUV then veered to the east side of the road and struck an embankment. The SUV then continued south along the embankment until it stuck the embankment a second time, which caused the SUV to overturn several times before it stopped.
18-year-old Chastain W. Jackson of Bloomfield, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected.
Both teens were not wearing seat belts during the incident.
Following the crash, both teens were taken by ambulance to Greene County General Hospital. Ellis was then flown by helicopter to Eskenzai Hospital in Indianapolis with unspecified injuries. Jackson, who had lacerations to his head and arms, was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Assisting at the scene were officers from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, Greene County Ambulance Service, and first responders from Taylor Township Fire Department.
