(BEDFORD) - The Warming Center for homeless men opened on Monday, but they are still needing volunteers.
Salvation Army Capt. Donna Rose says that orientation for volunteers will be Friday at 7 p.m. at the Salvation Army at the corner of 17th and K streets.
"The job is easy," says Rose, "Volunteers are needed to just be there and supervise. I attend to all the other details, like set up and meals."
Volunteers can work a few hours or a seven hour shift and both men and women volunteers are needed but the center must have at least one man on every shift.
The shelter is open from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.
"We provide overnight lodging, a shower and meals," Rose says. "Most of our referrals come from the police departments and social service agencies that have homeless men seeking shelter."
Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church partnered to operate the warming center which is open until mid-March or until the weather breaks.
To volunteer, learn more about the Warming Center or to attend the orientation, call Rose at 583-3965.
