(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Town Council approves an upcoming 5K race to be held in April to benefit two local students who were injured in a recent car accident.
Board members approved the necessary roadblocks and escorting assistance needed for a 5K Run/3K Walk that will be taking place on April 4.
The event will follow the same trail as the Apple Festival 5K Run.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m. Cost is $20 per person in advance online or $25 the day of the race.
All proceeds will go towards the outstanding medical bills for 17-year-old Mason Ellis and 18-year-old Chastain Jackson, Bloomfield students who were injured in on accident on Buck Run Road, near Newberry last month.
Both teens were flown to Indianapolis hospitals.
According to a Greene County Sheriff's report, Ellis was traveling south on Buck Run Road when he crossed Borter Road at an unsafe speed, which caused the 2005 Mitsubishi Montero SUV he was driving to continue onto Buck Run Road.
Police say the vehicle left tire marks as it veered to the west side of Buck Run Road after passing Borter Road. The SUV then veered to the east side of the road and struck an embankment. The SUV then continued south along the embankment until it struck the embankment a second time, which caused the SUV to overturn several times before it stopped. Jackson, a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected.
