(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Bedford police officers arrested 30-year-old Joshua Jackson of Bedford on Thursday on a felony charge of child molesting. He was taken to the Lawrence County jail where he is being held on a $200,000 surety or $20,005 cash bond.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the girl gave a friend at school a note telling her she had been molested by Jackson.
The friend then gave the note to a school official.
The note stated that the girl had been touched by a man that lived in her home.
According to police, Jackson allegedly went into the girl's bedroom while she was getting ready for bed. He allegedly touched her and had intercourse with her.
After the incident, Jackson texted her about what happened and mentioned is she said anything he would get in trouble.
Bedford Police Department officer then requested the girl's and Jackson's phone.
The girl's mother couldn't find the teen's phone and Jackson told police he needed his phone for work, but would bring it to police after work.
But when Jackson came to the police station he told police he had left the phone at work. Then he claimed he lost it.
When asked about the text messages, Jackson said he had texted the girl, but denied having any physical contact with her.
He did admit that losing the cell phone, texting the girl and the victims note to her friend didn't give a favorable view of him.
Police then obtained a search warrant for the text messages exchanged between the girl and Jackson.
