(UNDATED) - Starting Saturday, residents living in Indiana’s 812 area code must use the 812 designation along with the seven-digit phone number when making local calls.
To make long distance calls, residents will still dial the number 1 and then the 10-digit number of the person or entity they wish to call.
The change to 10-digit local dialing is due to an overlay of the new 930 area code for the region. The 930 area code is being added through the "overlay" method. An overlay is the addition of another area code to the same geographic area as an existing area code.
