Organizer Miles Flynn will read words to competitors. The student can then ask for a definition or the word to be used in a sentence. Words must be spelled orally for the event's judges Robert Henderson, Todd Marshall and Roger Moon. Rounds will continue until only one competitor remains.
Prizes and trophies will be awarded, and the champion will get to go on a six-day, five-night free trip to Washington, D.C., in May to represent Orange County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The winner and his or her parent or guardian will work with Erin Elliott of Mad Hatter Adventures, to plan the trip.
Sponsoring the event are the Orange County Community Foundation Education Fund, Erin Elliott of Mad Hatter Adventures, Old National Bank and Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company.
