(BLOOMINGTON) - Each year, the BHRC holds an art and essay contest for local students to enter.
This year was the 24th annual contest with the theme "A Lesson I Learned from Someone Different from Me."
The public is invited to attend a ceremony honoring the winners of the contest. The ceremony is taking place April 2, at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall 401 N. Morton Street. Prizes for the winners were provided in part by Optiks, Aver's Pizza, and the Ryder Film Series. Mayor Mark Kruzan will present the prizes.
Commission members Carolyn Calloway-Thomas, Birk Billingsley, Michael Molenda, and Barbara E. McKinney were the judges for this years contest.
The function of the essay contest is raise awareness for human rights issues in the community. The BHRC's mission is to educate the community about their rights and responsibilities under certain civil laws, among other duties.
