(BEDFORD) - Caroline Kinderthain is the 2015 Lilly Scholar for Lawrence County.
Caroline, the daughter of John and Heather Kinderthain, will receive a full-tuition scholarship to a four-year public or private college or university. The scholarship also includes an annual stipend of $900 for required books.
The 18-year-old senior at Bedford North Lawrence High School, plans to study elementary education in college.
She's considering attending Indiana State University or possibly Indiana Wesleyan University.
Thirty-five students applied for the scholarship, according to the Lawrence County Community Foundation. A selection committee, made up of community residents, narrowed the field to the top 10.
Those finalists included Kinderthain, Kyla Addison, Isaac Crane, Anna Cummings and John Underwood from BNL and Nolan Cox, Kamri Duncan, Trevin Grissom, Angela Sabo and Kyle Waggoner from Mitchell.
The 10 finalists completed an impromptu essay and were interviewed by the selection committee. Two - a potential recipient and an alternate -- were submitted to the Independent Colleges of Indiana for final selection.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education.
