(SEYMOUR) - An Illinois man was cited after an Indiana State Trooper clocked his vehicle traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour Wednesday morning during heavy fog conditions.
Around 8:14 a.m. Indiana State Police Master Trooper Kevin Riordan clocked a dark-colored 2003 Hyundai Tiburon at 115 mph as it traveled south on I-65.
Police say weather conditions at that time consisted of a low-lying heavy fog and wet roads.
Trooper Riordan was able to catch up to the Hyundai after it got slowed in traffic that was going much slower due to the low-visibility caused by heavy fog.
Police cited 22-year-old Michael Villada of Chicago, Illinois for speeding. Villada told the trooper he was late for work and that is why he was going so fast.
At the time of this traffic incident, the Indiana State Police was currently investigating several crashes, including two fatalities on I-65 in northern Indiana in the heavy fog, low-visibility and wet road conditions.
Police remind motorists to reduce their speed, turn on your vehicle's lights and travel at a safe distance while following other motorists during heavy fog and low visibility weather conditions.
