(MITCHELL) - A new theatre company is coming to Mitchell.
Limestone Persimmon Theatre Company will be run by Mitchell native Seavor Roach. Roach, a musical theatre voice major at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, says the new company will be located at the Opera House.
On March 25 the company received its nonprofit status through the Internal Revenue Service.
Now the goal is for Roach to produce a summer musical that will run for two weekends at the end of July, then continue as an endeavor that brings locally produced musicals and plays to the Opera House throughout the year.
Roach is teaming with Hoosier Uplands, which now owns the Opera House, to develop a plan that will bring the arts back to the Mitchell community.
The theatre group will be what is known as "progressive theatre" and follow union equity guidelines.
Roach says dates and details are still being finalized, as the board of directors will oversee the group.
The company will survive on donations.
Soon, a newsletter will be established to keep those interested in the effort more up to date on the progress.
