(MITCHELL) - A driver was arrested after injuring a Bloomington man in a single-vehicle accident on State Road 37 on Sunday.
29-year-old Jordan Hilyard of Bloomington was found bleeding from his head by the Lawrence County Police Department. The police called Hilyard's injuries "incapacitating."
The driver of the vehicle was 30-year-old Joshua E. Connerley of Terre Haute. Hilyard was the front-seat passenger of the vehicle. Connerley had minor injuries to his head, but no immediate medical attention was given. Connerley was booked to the Lawrence County Jail on the misdemeanor of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, as well as a felony of causing bodily injury.
The accident occurred at approximately 3:08 a.m., just south of Gun Club Road.
The white Ford was found in the ditch on the side of the road, on its roof, after sustaining heavy damage. Hilyard was tended to by a bystander who helped stop his bleeding by applying pressure with a t-shirt until paramedics arrived. Connerley was identified as the driver who admitted to consuming "a couple" alcoholic beverages before the accident at a Paoli bar.
Both Connerley and Hilyard were taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, where Connerley was given a blood test. His results are pending due to a criminal investigation.
Both passengers in the accident were wearing their seat belts when the crash occurred.
