(HAYDEN) - Federal charges have been filed against three men accused of robbing and murdering a Heyden gun shop owner.
During a news conference Friday at the Jennings County Prosecutor's Office, Josh Minkler, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced federal charges resulting from a grand jury investigation into the Sept. 21, 2014, slaying of 60-year-old Scott Douglas Maxie. The robbery and murder took place at Maxie's Muscatatuck Outdoors store at 8485 West County Road 200S near Hayden.
Maxie was shot in the head during the robbery. His body was found lying on the floor of his shop. The shop was part of Maxie's home.
The grand jury returned an indictment against the three defendants -- brothers 25-year-old Darryl Anthony Worthen and 23-year-old Dejuan Andre Worthen and their cousin, 20-year-old Darion Dashon Harris, all of Indianapolis.
All three have been charged with murder and robbery and are currently being held without bond at the Jennings County Jail.
Darryl Worthen was caught twice on the store's video surveillance system in the two days leading up to the murder. Worthen, who worked for FedEx, frequently stopped at Maxie's gun shop and had delivered a package the day before the murder.
Four guns from the 47 the men stole were recovered. Maxie had as many as 200 guns in his shop.
