(BEDFORD) - Projects have begun to improve city’s water system in efforts to comply with Indiana Department of Environmental Management expectations.
Both projects will be funded with recently refinanced bonds making $12 million available for improvements.
One project will tackle replacing old clay tile sewers with new 24-inch plastic pipe from U Street to the Spider Creek. A small section of the Milwaukee Trail may be closed for periods of time according to Bedford Utilities. Construction is to begin in April for a duration of approximately three months.
The second will hopefully improve consumer drinking water by adding another level of disinfection. Ultra Violet equipment will be used during the last step of distillation killing more bacteria before water is stored in the main pipelines flowing to customers.
All improvements of the Water Plant are in accordance with the IDEM. There is a completion date set for September 16th 2015.
