(BEDFORD) - Two have been chosen as DAR Good Citizens for 2015 - they are Bedford North Lawrence Senior Caroline Kinderthain and Mitchell High School Senior Kyle Waggoner.
The John Wallace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsor the DAR Good Citizens Program and Indiana DAR and NSDAR Good Citizen Scholarship Program at Bedford North Lawrence High School and Mitchell High School each year.
Both seniors showed qualities of dependability, service to community and others, leadership and patriotism. The scholarship portion consists of a written essay.
Caroline A. Kinderthain is the daughter of John and Heather Kinderthain. She is secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of Latin Club and president of choir. She is a member of Beta Club, Key Club, Teens for Kids First, Breakfast Club and Spectrum Club. Through choir, Kindethain has participated in musicals and madrigal dinners. She is a member of the Speech Team and makes the daily announcements at BNL. She has received academic awards in Pre-AP Chemistry, Algebra 2, Geometry, World History, Sophomore English, AP English and Composition and Latin. She received a vocal music award her sophomore year.
Kinderthain also volunteers for Bertha's Mission and is a church camp counselor. She is a member of the Community Praise Team and youth group and Girl Scouts. She is a sales associate at Goody's and enjoys singing, playing violin, reading and crafting.
She plans to study education after graduating from BNL.
Waggoner is the son of Tina Waggoner and the late Greg Waggoner. He is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Academic Team, Science Club, SADD and Mitchell Fresh Start. He received a Chemistry I award. He was class president his freshman and sophomore years. Waggoner is a member of MHS marching, pep and concert bands.
He volunteers with Student Council projects, Special Olympics and Persimmon Festival 5K Run. He also helps with float decorations for the Persimmon Festival and assists with prom decorations -- both putting them up and removing them the day after prom. With his church youth group, Waggoner assisted with clean up/recovery efforts for the victims of superstorm Sandy.
Waggoner works at Arby's and enjoys reading, spending time with friends and playing sports with friends. He has an interest in robotics and plans to pursue a degree in electrical engineering at either Purdue University or Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
The DAR Good Citizens from both high schools will be recognized at an awards banquet at 6 p.m. on March 19, at the First Christian Church, 1105 15th Street, Bedford.
American History Essay winners will also be honored.
