(UNDATED) - Union Hospital’s Richard G. Lugar Center for Rural Health distributed automated external defibrillators to various agencies in Greene and Sullivan counties.
An A-E-D is a small portable device that delivers shock through the chest to the heart.
8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon who was on hand for the presentation says AED's are a tool all emergency management agencies should have in their arsenals.
A total of 30 A-E-D's were handed out to local Sheriff Departments, Volunteer Fire Departments and Public Recreation areas.
The presentation was a part of the Federal Rural Access to Emergency Devices Grant that was awarded to the Lugar Center by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
The grant allows both the placement of the AED's by the Lugar Center, as well as free training sessions by certified American Heart Association instructors.
