(TERRE HAUTE) - Indiana State University has recognized senior Evan Rush for his academic achievement.
The Bloomfield resident is one of four graduating seniors to receive the Hines Memorial Medal this spring. The Medal is awarded to graduates with the highest cumulative grade point average during their time at Indiana State.
Rush is an Eagle Scout and a Rural Health Scholar. He job shadowed physicians for 100 hours during the summer of 2013, has tutored in the Chemistry Help Center and Organic Chemistry Lab and studied abroad in Finland.
He participated in Alternative Spring Break trips from 2012 to 2015. He has been a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Terre Haute since 2012. He has also participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience program and has served as a Resident Assistant. He said that position, in which he serves his peers in student housing, has been his most meaningful experience at Indiana State.
Rush is graduating with a degree in chemistry and minors in civic leadership and biology. The son of Michael and Betty Rush, he is a graduate of Bloomfield High School. He been accepted to the Indiana University School of Medicine as a member of the rural health track. After completing medical school, he is interested in pursuing surgery or endocrinology.
