(BLOOMINGTON) - Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is welcoming the arrival of the EA-6B Prowler.
The EA-6B Prowler will arrive at the Monroe County Airport on the morning of May 5. The event is by invitation only.
The retiring EA-6B Prowler is destined to become a static display at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Crane.
Workers at NSWC Crane have supported the aircraft's tactical jamming system for 44 years, enabling the system to shut down enemy air defenses and communications systems by jamming signals within the RF electromagnetic spectrum.
Prowlers have participated in every military conflict involving U.S. and coalition aircraft since 1971 and saved countless lives, thanks in part to Crane's dedication to supporting the nation's warfighters.
"After blazing an electronic path to the target, EA-6B pilots have prepared the airspace for their aviation brethren to put bombs on target. Their engagement is the key to successful air attack, and because of their indispensable role, demand for their services routinely exceeds what can be provided. Indeed, the feeling of most F-18 pilots is that there is no such thing as having too many Prowlers," explained former Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter.
Speakers at the ceremony will include Rear Adm. Lorin Selby, commander of the Naval Surface Warfare Center.
