(LINTON) - Greene County General Hospital, located in Linton, received a WorkOne Achievement Award for partnering with WorkOne to create employment opportunities for local Hoosiers. The award was presented Tuesday in a ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse.
Greene County General Hospital opened in 1912 as the Freeman City Hospital, and in 1974 relocated to Lone Tree Road, just east of Linton. In recent years, Greene County General has worked closely with WorkOne to further establish its human resources department and formalize job descriptions and duties. Over the past year they have also utilized WorkOne tools to evaluate and increase employee skill levels. In the past six months alone, Greene County General has hired 118 new employees using IndianaCareerConnect.com, Indiana's largest online job bank, with plans to fill 89 more positions.
"Greene County General is one of the few remaining county owned and independently ran hospitals in Indiana, and employs roughly 350 Hoosiers," said Steven J. Braun, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. "Greene County General is one of the largest employers in the county and is committed to expanding their partnership with WorkOne by creating a work experience program for local youth."
The WorkOne Achievement Awards are awarded by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development to 12 individuals for their outstanding accomplishments while participating in the workforce development system. Twelve awards were also presented to employers who partner with WorkOne for their contribution to growing Indiana's economy and commitment to their community. All of the recipients were nominated for the award by their local WorkOne center.
