(UNDATED) - The Indiana High School Athletic Association has announced the new classifications for IHSAA member schools in several sports for the next two school years.
The enrollment figures, the total of boys and girls in grades 9‐12, were submitted by the schools to the Indiana Department of Education last fall and are used to determine the classifications in the sports of baseball, boys and girls basketball, football, boys and girls soccer, softball and volleyball.
The IHSAA say that the Tournament Success Factor points will still be accumulated in baseball and softball this spring and any necessary updated versions in those sports will be released in the days following the end of those respective state tournaments. Sectional groupings for each sport will be announced no earlier than May 4 following approval of the IHSAA Executive Committee.
Due to decreased student enrollment numbers, the Mitchell Bluejackets will compete in Class 2A for at least two seasons beginning next year in football, boys and girls basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball.
Mitchell will remain in Class A for boys soccer, which only has two classifications. No other area schools were affected by the announcement.
Other schools changes include Sullivan moving from a 2A to 3A and Barr Reeves Jr-Senior High School will be moving from A to 2A to a higher enrollment classification due to Rule 2-5
Eastern Greene will move in football from a 2A to A and Columbus East's ranking changed to a higher enrollment classification due to Rule 2.5
In Volleyball North Daviess will move from 2A to A.
