(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Junior Defensive Lineman Ralpael Green III has been suspended after he was arrested Sunday on misdemeanor battery charges.
According to Bloomington Police, officers were called to the 1300 block of North Lincoln Street around 1:09 a.m.
When they arrived a man told them that a man wearing a Caremlo Anthony jersey had assaulted a woman.
Witnesses say Green was dancing around the woman and had grabbed her waist, creating a disturbance between the victim, Green and the victim's boyfriend.
Green then reportedly slapped the woman across the face, but she suffered no marks or swelling.
Officers found Green who was "yelling belligerently" and was attempting to get into the passenger side of a vehicle. When he got into the car he repeatedly honked the horn.
Officers ordered Green to stop yelling and honking the horn. Green then stepped out of the vehicle.
Police say the 21-year-old had slurred speech, red, watery eyes and poor balance. Green's blood alcohol content was 0.20 percent.
He was arrested on charges of battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
IU provided a statement saying Green has been suspended:
"Indiana University Athletics and the IU football program are aware of the arrest of Indiana University student-athlete Ralph Green III. We take this situation very seriously as we do all conduct-related issues, on or off the field, among our student-athletes.
"Ralph has been suspended from all football activities effective immediately, and the IU Office of the Dean of Students has been notified of the allegations consistent with Department of Athletics policy. We will continue to gather facts, monitor the legal and university processes, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.
