Man Arrested For Burglary Of Sullivan Law Office

Last updated on Wednesday, April 8, 2015

(SULLIVAN) - Tuesday afternoon around 2:15 p.m., Indiana State Police arrested a man who allegedly burglarized the Springer Law Office Building located at 1 West Jackson Street in Sullivan.

25-year-old Brett Bowers of Sullivan is facing felony charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He is being held in the Sullivan County Jail.

According to police, around 8 a.m. Sunday, April 5, Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom was on routine patrol and noticed the rear door to the Springer Law Office Building appeared to have been forced open. ISP and owners of the building were contacted and found the office had been ransacked with a laptop; computer related items; $1400 in cash; and other miscellaneous office equipment missing.

Investigators believe the burglary occurred between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. that morning. Investigators also recovered evidence that led them to believe Milburn Pharmacy, located next door to the Springer Law Office, was the initial target; however, access was not gained to the pharmacy.

An ISP investigation into the burglary began and during the investigation, an ISP Crime Scene Investigator recovered many items of physical evidence as well as video of the suspect from a nearby business.

Tuesday morning, law enforcement received an anonymous tip which appeared to correlate with their physical evidence and led to the arrest of Bowers.

The case was investigated by ISP Detective Mike Taylor. Assisting were ISP Crime Scene Investigator Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald, Senior Trooper Tom Hanks, Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom, Sullivan Police Department, and the Sullivan County Prosecutor's Office.
