(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was subdued Monday afternoon after he allegedly stabbed his former girlfriend in the arm with a sharp object and later cut his wrists.
According to Bloomington Lt. Brad Seifers, the 46-year-old woman was treated at IU Health Bloomington Hospital for a minor wound and released.
After injuring the woman, the man, who police are not naming, left the resident on Yancy Street in a car driven by a friend.
Officers located the vehicle in the 700 of East Wylie Street and found the 51-year-old man on the front porch of a home.
As officers approached the man he dared police to shoot him, saying he wanted "to commit suicide by cop." He then began cutting his wrists as officers approached him.
Officers sprayed the man with pepper spray and fired four sponge bullets at the man to subdue him.
The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and for a psychiatric evaluation.
Lt. Seifers says criminal charges are pending.
