(MITCHELL) - Two men face drug-related charges after Mitchell police discovered meth and prescription drugs after making a traffic stop Saturday.
According to Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman, officers pulled over 46-year-old William Speer of Bedford on Main Street near the Carpenter's building because the officer could not see a license plate on the vehicle.
Also in the vehicle was 24-year-old Brandon Edwards of Mitchell.
As the officer approached the vehicle they noticed it did have a dealer's plate, but it was not attached properly to the vehicle and Speer did not have a driver's license to give to the officer. The officer contacted dispatch who informed him that Speer was not a valid driver.
Both men were acting suspicious so the officer also requested a K-9 unit to respond.
The Lawrence County K-9 alerted police there were possible drugs in the vehicle. Officers found meth and six different pills in the vehicle that neither had a prescription for.
Speer was arrested on charges of possession of meth, two counts of possession of a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance. He was also cited for not possessing a driver's license, and improper display of a license plate.
Edwards was charged with possession of meth, two counts of possession of a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, visiting a common nuisance.
Edwards was also charged with trafficking with an inmate, after a jailer found him in possession of more prescription pills while booking him into jail.
