(AUSTIN) - Indiana Department of Transportation officials have closed State Road 256 near Austin in response to pavement failure caused by a washout at a drainage pipe that runs under the roadway.
The road is currently closed between U.S. 31 and State Road 203.
INDOT maintenance crews began removing and replacing the 36-inch pipe at 8 a.m. today. The pipe location is 0.2 miles east of Coffee Pot Road.
The road will reopen as soon as operations have been completed and new asphalt has been put in place.
