(BROWNSTOWN) - A tire that fell off a pickup truck involved in a wreck Friday afternoon on U.S. 50 near Brownstown hit a school bus carrying 15 kids.
According to a Jackson County Police report, none of those riding on the Brownstown Central bus or in the two vehicles involved in the wreck were hurt.
The incident, reported near the Medora junction at about 3:40 p.m. Friday, began when the bus being driving west on U.S. 50 by Connie Prairie, was slowing for a stop just east of State Road 235.
Police say Prairie had activated the yellow light as she slowed down to let other motorists know she preparing to stop.
Gilbert Carpenter of Freetown, who was driving a 2006 Toyota east U.S. 50 at the time, said he slowed when he saw the bus stopping.
Kristopher Curry, who was driving a Chevrolet pickup east, told police he didn't notice that Carpenter was stopped and his truck hit Carpenter's car.
The impact caused a tire to come off Curry's pickup and that tire stuck the school bus on the side.
