(BEDFORD) - Two people were arrested after a Lawrence County Police officer stopped them for a traffic violation at the junction of Ind. 37 and U.S. 50 West Sunday morning.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, the vehicle was stopped after officers were notified the license plate was stolen.
During the traffic stop, a canine alerted the officer to possible drugs in the vehicle.
"A search of the vehicle revealed a white powdery substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine," Branham added. "It was also determined the driver was operating the vehicle on a suspended driver's license."
Police arrested 30-year-old Justin Terrell of Mitchell on charges of possession of meth, maintaining a common nuisance and driving while his driver's license was suspended.
His passenger, 34-year-old Stormi Knight of Mitchell, was arrested on charges of possession of meth and visiting a common nuisance.
"It was later determined that the license plate was not stolen, and that the entering agency in northern Indiana had made a mistake entering the license plate," Branham says.
