(BEDFORD) - There is a new access point on the Milwaukee Trail due to the city’s sewer project that will limit access to the U Street trailhead.
Walkers can now enter the trail in Wilson Park. The Times-Mail reports that a trail was already there, but it crossed private property and the city of Bedford needed permission from the landowners before it could be used by those wanting to walk the Milwaukee Trail.
The owner, Dr. Jim Mount, granted the city permission to link Wilson park to the trail.
Trail users can park at the Indiana National Guard Armory to enter the park from the Armory side. It is about 1,500 feet from the Wilson connector to the Milwaukee Trail.
The Bedford Hiking Club, of which Mount is a member, will have a volksmarch April 18 and the hike will include the Wilson Park connector.
Workers are also began clearing the trail to Williams. Volunteers are working to clear the five-mile stretch from Williams' dam to Coxton Road. It will take about 90 days to complete.
