(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man who was wanted on a warrant was stopped by a detective of the Lawrence County Drug Task Force and arrested Friday night.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, the officer saw 49-year-old Steven Sanders driving a green Suzuki SUV on South I Street just after 5 p.m. The officer also knew Sanders had a suspended driver's license.
The officer alerted other officers and they attempted to stop Sanders on Sunny Acres Drive. Sanders fled in the vehicle turning south on Tunnelton Road. Other officer joined the pursuit. Sanders then drove the SUV into a field on Twin Bridges Road.
Sanders was arrested on the warrant for petition to revoke probation and is now facing additional charges of driving while his driver's license was suspended with a prior conviction, resisting arrest by fleeing in a vehicle, resisting arrest by force.
During a search of the SUV, police found syringes, a glass pipe with meth residue, marijuana, pills and meth. Sanders was then charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of meth.
