(PADANARAM) - Firefighters from eight fire departments battled a blaze at the Padanaram Settlement early Sunday morning.
According to Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Chief Monty Wright, the 60-foot by 100-foot building, which served as a community center, was destroyed.
Firefighters from Indian Creek, Perry, Williams, Shawswick, Oolitic, Huron, Shoals and Martin County Civil Defense rushed to the scene after a resident in the settlement was driving by the building and saw smoke at 12:30 a.m.
The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Firefighters remained at the scene until sometime between 5 and 5:30 a.m., according to Wright. No cause has been determined.
Also assisting at the scene were ambulances from Martin County, Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital and Tabernacle of Praise Emergency Services were also on the scene.
