(GREENE CO.) - Firefighters from Center Township Fire Department and several other departments battled a structure fire in eastern Greene County on Saturday afternoon.
According to Center Township Fire Chief Jeremy Inman, firefighters were called to the scene at 1:12 p.m. at 11765 East State Road 54 in Bloomfield.
Within four minutes the four-story home including the basement had collapsed. The home is owned by Joe and Christy James.
The fire was believed to be burning for some time before firefighters were alerted including Eastern, Richland, Taylor Twp (Greene County) Van Buren and Indian Creek of Monroe County, Greene County Ambulance Service and the Indiana State Fire Marshal Office responding to the scene.
The owner of the home also had a two story business near the home and firefighters were able to keep the blaze from causing any damage to that building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Everything in the residence was a total loss including all household items, sentimental family items, a car and a semi trailer that contained numerous items from one of the owner's businesses.
