(HAYSVILLE) - Fire engulfed and destroyed a pole barn eight miles northeast of Haysville in rural Martin County.
The fire was reported around 2:45 Sunday afternoon. Twelve firefighters with the Haysville Volunteer Fire Department battled the fire that consumed a 66 by 60 aluminum-sided barn for less than an hour before they ran out of water in the remote area.
They called for more water, but could only stand around and watch the fire accelerate before the water arrived.
A number of large bales of hay and straw fueled the fire, which was still burning at 4:30 p.m.
The barn, owned by Harold Parsons, is located just off Parsons Lane. Parsons, a retired farmer who also retired from working as a mechanic at National Gypsum in Shoals, says the fire destroyed a number of farm vehicles, including tractors, hay balers, and a bulldozer. Everything in the barn was destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
