(MITCHELL) - Hoosier Uplands Hospice is accepting adult volunteers in the counties of Washington, Orange, Crawford, Martin and Lawrence counties.
To qualify, a hospice volunteer should be age 18 or older, possess a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance. Volunteers are required to complete 25 hours of training, which can be done at the volunteer's home. Volunteers are required to have a limited background check and an annual PPD test, all provided by Hoosier Uplands Hospice and at no charge to the volunteer.
Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage and will have the fulfillment of giving back to their community. Volunteers will assist with oral care, changing bed linens, walking, transferring, nail and hair care, and helping the patient eat.
Vehicular transporting of the patient is prohibited. Volunteer activities can include reading, writing, running errands, crocheting, knitting or sewing. If interested in donating a minimum of two hours a month, contact Lee Grimes at (800) 827-2219.
