(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University senior is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot a man he had been in a fight with earlier.
22-year-old Kriegon Newby is facing attempted murder, battery with deadly weapon, intimidation and possessing a handgun without a license.
According to a Bloomington Police report, officers were called to the 800 block of South Henderson Street just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
When they arrived, they found a 23-year-old who had been shot twice. The man told police that he and the man that shot him had been in a fight earlier. Police and paramedics were dispatched to a report of an injured man in the 800 block of South Henderson Street at 4:08 a.m. Wednesday.
According to Bloomington Sgt. Joe Crider, after the fight Newby had received a call asking him to return to the scene and apologized to the victim for the previous fight. However when Newby returned the two began fighting again and that is when Newby pulled a .22-caliber handgun and shot the victim twice.
Witnesses at the scene then tackled Newby until police arrived.
Police say the victim, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and is expected to recover.
Crider says the case remains under investigation.
