(BEDFORD) - John Wallace Daughter of the Revolution will provide certificates of appreciation to Vietnam veterans in conjunction with the Memorial Day event planned by Mark Mathis.
The Mathis family will provide patriotic music and the Constitution of the United States of American will be read from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday.
DAR will also have a flag display representing the Veterans who died in Lawrence County from April 1, 2014 to April 1, 2015. There will also be a flag display for the 23 Veterans from Lawrence County who died in the Vietnam War.
Martha Cox, chairman of the DAR project is requesting a form be completed to assist with the completion of the certificates. Contact Cox by email attccox1@hotmail.com to request a form. The forms may be turned in on Memorial Day from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. or the forms will also be available during these times on Memorial Day.
Eligible wartime periods per the Department of Veterans Affairs for Vietnam era Veterans are February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 for Veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam (actual boots on the ground) during that period; otherwise August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975.
John Wallace DAR is a Commemorative Partner with the Department of Defense and through this partnership, they may request certificates for former, living, POW's; in memory of a Veteran listed on the Vietnam Wall in Washington, DC; for unaccounted for or missing in action as listed by the Department of Defense; for a surviving spouse of a deceased Vietnam veteran who died after the war of other causes. These certificates may be requested on the same form, but they will be prepared by the Department of Defense.
Certificate request forms are also available at the Veterans Service Office at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
