(BEDFORD) - PJ Granger of Bedford has won a spot on Esquire Network’s and NBC’s heart-racing competition series, American Ninja Warrior. Granger learned Monday he made it to the regional qualifications this weekend.
This Friday he will compete against 30 others to complete six challenging obstacle courses.
"The ones that completes the courses with the fastest times will move on to the regional finals on Saturday," Granger says.
Those that successfully complete the finals course in their designated region move on to the national finals round in Las Vegas, where they face a stunning four-stage course modeled after the famed Mt. Midoriyama course in Japan.
The winner will take home a grand prize of $1 million dollars. Although many have come close, no competitor has yet to achieve total victory and claim the prize. Granger hopes to be the first.
Granger has been training for 10 months.
"It has been a life-changing experience. I have obstacle courses in the house, in the back yard and use the area bridges, friend's decks, anywhere can become an obstacle course or a challenge," Granger added. "I have spent thousands of hours and traveled thousands of miles to land a spot on the show."
To secure his spot, Granger has spent the last 10 days standing in line in Pittsburg, Pa. He was second in line when the producers started securing spots for the show.
"We just camped out in a tent, bathed in the river, did whatever it took to secure our spots" Granger says. "I had traveled to Kansas to get on the show there but was 36th in line and I just missed the cut. I wasn't going to take that chance again."
Granger will travel back to Pittsburgh on Thursday.
"On Friday, we will do interviews and then Saturday run the course, which they are in the process of setting up now," Granger added. "If I succeed, I will travel to Las Vegas in June to compete with 74 others."
Granger credits the loving support of his wife Ashley for him making it this far.
"Ashley has just been amazing. She and our daughter Lennon Blue have been my biggest supporters," Granger added. "The residents of Bedford have been wonderful offering words of encouragement and support."
