Primary Election Is Tuesday

(UNDATED) - Tuesday is Election Day.

Primary elections will be conducted in Bedford and Mitchell Tuesday.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. In both communities.

Four are seeking to earn the spot as the Democratic candidate for Mitchell Mayor.

Those are incumbent Gary Pruett, Terry W. Slone Sr., Ernest D. Speer and Eugene "Pud" Terrell.

Vicky Schlegel and Dan Terrell will face off for the Republican spot for Mitchell mayor.

There are two contested primary races in Bedford.

Seeking the Republican nomination for Mayor is Bradford K. "Brad" Bough and Sam Shaw. The winner will face incumbent Independent candidate Mayor Shawna Girgis in the fall. Her name will not appear on the primary ballot.

The Democrat party still has the option to fill the spot for a Democrat candidate.

Other races to watch are the two Republican at-large city council seats in Bedford and the Mitchell clerk-treasurer's race. There is also a battle for the District 2 Mitchell city council seat.

Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles branches located in counties that have May 2015 elections will extend hours of operation on Monday, May 4 and on Tuesday, May 5 to issue ID cards and driver's licenses that may be used for identification at a polling place.

Branches will be open on Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

These license branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID cards, and renewed, amended or replacement driver's licenses and learner permits.

The BMV provides free, state-issued ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier, as long as he or she can provide proper documentation and will be at least 18 years of age on or before the next General or Municipal Election.

There are 20 Indiana counties that do not have elections on Tuesday, May 5 and they will be closed on Tuesday, May 5 in observance of the state Election Day holiday.

All license branches will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, May 6.
