Weight Limits Placed On Bridges

(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes told the county commissioners Monday that new weight limits have been placed on three county bridges.

Bridge 82 on Judah Logan Road has a 15 ton limit
Bridge 78 on Pumphouse Road has a 16 ton limit
Bridge 60 on Tunnelton Road has a 16 ton limit

Commissioner Bill Spreen says the 16 ton limit on Tunnelton Road will be a "major obstacle."

As for the bridge on Jasper McKeigg Road, Holmes did meet with engineers about possible repairs or replacing the bridge - but that didn't go so well.

"We don't have a plan and we just don't have the money to replace the bridge," he added.

Holmes estimates the cost of replacing the bridge at as much as $100,000.

Holmes says crews are readying roads to begin the paving season.

"We have been patching with hot-mix and most of the culverts have been replaced," He added. "We still have some work on Maple Leaf to do."

In other business:

The county received 3 bids for paving county roads. Those bids were from Milestone Contractors, Flinn & Son Escavating and Paving and E&B Paving. The bids were taken under advisement.
Sheriff Mike Branham reported there were 126 inmates at the jail Monday morning, of those 21 were females and 8 Department of correction holds.
The commissioners approved an amendment to the Health Department's vaccine fees. There is a new vaccine HPV9. Teresa Miller, of the Health Department says HPV9 is a new vaccine that combats 9 strains of the Human Papillomavirus
