(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly injured a woman and an infant during a domestic dispute Sunday morning.
Police were called to a home in the 2400 block of H Street at 3:40 a.m. after a woman reported she and her infant son were locked in a bedroom and 25-year-old Rex Luttrell was attempting to break down the door.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, when officers arrived they could hear Luttrell ramming at the bedroom door and were attempting to gain entry into the house when Luttrell opened the front door.
Officers found the woman battered and bruised. She told police that Luttrell had come home from the bar intoxicated, which, she says, led to a fight and him hurting both her and the baby.
"She had marks on her throat, arms and legs," Parsley says. "The infant had a red mark on his head and above his eye."
Both the woman and the infant were taken to a local hospital by IU Health Hospital ambulance.
"The woman was so worried about her child and what had happened that police were unable to take her statement at that time," Parsley says. "She was told to come to the police station to make a statement after being treated at the hospital."
The woman did just that and filed a battery complaint against Luttrell who was arrested on charges of domestic battery on a person under the age of 14-years-old, domestic battery, and interfering with a 911 call and strangulation.
