(BLOOMINGTON) - Anthropology and archaeology researchers are overseeing an excavation at the county courthouse square in Bloomington as part of work to put in a new plaza.
Excavation began Monday.
No significant archaeological finds are expected, but researcher Meghan Buchanan says they'll document any findings.
Indiana University researcher and Monroe County Council member Cheryl Munson says remains of buildings such as Bloomington's first police and fire station are buried underneath the square.
