(MITCHELL) - The grand re-opening of the Mitchell Opera House will be held on July 4 at 7 p.m.
The historic building at 217 North Seventh Street in Mitchell was built in 1906.
In 2014, the City of Mitchell tasked Hoosier Uplands with the historical renovation and preservation of the Mitchell Opera House, complete with a state of the art sound and video projection system.
"Having in the past been the home to vaudeville acts, silent movies, teen dances and the old city Hall. I think the public will be pleased and excited by the facelift," says David Miller, Hoosier Upland Chief Executive Officer.
The July 4th event will include a short program, video history of the opera house and a free performance by the Lick Creek Band to kick off the scheduled weekly Saturday night shows.
The Lick Creek Band delivers favorite standards with new charm, bluegrass favorites with a Hoosier complexity, and informal sweetness of back porch jam sessions with tight vocal harmony and musical connection shared by good friends.
"Visit the Mitchell Opera House website at mitchelloperahouse.com and see our lineup of Saturday night shows for the next several months," Miller added.
