Hoosier National Forest Hosting Educational Events

(BEDFORD) - The Hoosier National Forest has a full schedule of opportunities to learn more about nature and get outdoors over the summer months.
Several extra programs are planned at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and Brooks Cabin on the north end of the Forest in Monroe County, and at the Rickenbaugh House in Perry County.
- June 6, 8:30 pm - Curious about lizards, frogs, snakes and turtles? Jim Horton of the Hoosier Herpetological Society will host the Hoosier Herp Out at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and talk about amphibians and reptiles.
- June 6, 10 am - 4 pm - "Talk with a Ranger" at the Rickenbaugh House. Tour and learn about the historic home and participate in bird programs and games.
- June 13, 10 am - 4 pm - Living history interpretation at Brooks Cabin
- June 13, Dusk - "Going Batty" - Learn about the amazing world of bats at the amphitheater at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area.
- June 14, 10 am - 4 pm - Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations and Leave No Trace ethics will be taught by Yvette Rollins from the Hoosier Backcountry Horsemen. She'll have samples and teach how to limit your impacts on the land.
- June 20, 9 am - 3 pm - Get Outdoors Day in Bedford at Murray Forest Park. Almost 30 different outdoor activities for kids to try. Free Event.
- June 27, 9 am - 1 pm - Adventures With Nature features pioneer skills and games. Located at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area, this event will teach you to make rope and toys, milk a goat and make butter and play pioneer games.
Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and the Brooks Cabin are both located just off SR 446 in Monroe County. Murray Forest Park is located in Bedford next to Stalker School. Rickenbaugh House is located in the Indian Celina Recreation Area in Perry County. Lastly, Tipsaw Recreation Area is also located in Perry County. Both areas are just south of I-64.
All events are free, although a gate fee of $5/vehicle will be charged at the recreation areas. Brooks Cabin and Murray Forest Park are free.
