(FORT RITNER) - A Bloomington man was killed after his lawn mower flipped on top of him Wednesday afternoon.
Police were notified about the accident just after 2 p.m. in the 290 block of Fort Ritner Road.
A woman called 911 and told the dispatcher that she had driven past the property and saw the man mowing, but when she drove past again a short time later the mower was upside down on a brush pile on top of the man, and she believed the man was dead.
Shawswick and Guthrie Volunteer Fire Departments, Bedford firefighters and an IU Health Hospital ambulance rushed to the scene.
71-year-old Ronald Calvert of Bloomington died after the mower flipped on top of him.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, Calvert didn't live on the lot, but used it a as a weekend getaway.
"He went there to hunt and fish," Branham says.
According to police, Calvert was operating a zero-turn mower in the area of some landscape timbers on an embankment.
"He was going across the landscape timbers and got off the edge of those, causing the mover to flip on top of him," Branham added.
