(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police are looking for a man who broke into a 73-year-old woman’s apartment and sexually assaulted her early Sunday morning.
According to Bloomington Capt. Joe Qualters, the woman did not know the man who attacked her.
The woman alerted police after she was able to activate her home medical alert system at 5:47 a.m., which sent her attacker fleeing through an unlocked sliding glass door at the woman's home.
According to police, the woman was asleep on her couch when she was woke by the man who had covered her nose and mouth with his hand. He then pressed his forearm into her throat, choking her.
Qualters says the woman was sexually assaulted twice - once in the living room and then when he forced her into a bedroom.
The woman reported she was sexually assaulted twice, once in the living room and again in a bedroom after he forced her down the hallway.
The woman was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment and a sexual assault exam.
Police are looking for a young black man, possibly in his 20s, with short cropped black hair. He was last seen wearing a bright red polo shirt with thin, horizontal blue stripes, gray pants or shorts and white canvas tennis shoes with black soles.
A police canine was brought to the scene and searched the area for the man but police were unable to find him.
